  • Do the technical skills you possess allow you to make an informed decision?  If not, are the resources or networks you have good enough to help you find the answer?

  • Are your interpersonal skills good enough to establish all the facts, where the fact gaps are, whether you are bringing your stakeholders with you, are you persuasive enough for stakeholders to accept your assessment and then pragmatic enough to adapt that assessment in the light of new facts?

  • How effective and timely are you in navigating a complex world of grey in order to provide enough certainty for your business?

  • Sometimes it's not just about the "compliance answer" - a network of systems, controls and processes will often need to be understood so that sustainable good compliance outcomes can be achieved.  This will often mean having a good cross-functional understanding of other components such as risk management, settlement operations, front office order and trade management systems, Human Resources, IT, product control, Internal Audit
